Carmageddon ploughing into GOG

Automotive murder simulator Carmageddon has been out of reach for many years, but soon we'll again be able to hop behind the wheel of our killing machines and fry pedestrians with the game's "electro-bastard ray." As developer Stainless seeks Kickstarter funding for Carmageddon: Reincarnation, it's also announced that the original will be racing towards GOG "in the coming months."

Carmageddon: Reincarnation seeking Kickstarter funds

Carmageddon: Reincarnation seeking Kickstarter funds

Carmageddon made quite the splash when it debuted in 1997. The hyper-violent driving game had you running over bodies at high-speeds, and undoubtedly corrupted our nation's youth. The game's original developer, Stainless Games, wants to revive the long-dormant property with Carmageddon: Reincarnation.

Although already "announced," the developer is now turning to Kickstarter to raise crowdsourced funds for the game. "Raising the funds through Kickstarter will mean that we keep complete control of the project and can make the game we know everyone wants to play – with no EVIL corporate investor or publisher telling us that we can't run over old ladies or set fire to cows," Stainless Games CEO Patrick Buckland said in a press release.

Carmageddon: Reincarnation announced

Carmageddon series creator Stainless Games announced today that it has reacquired the rights to the bloody combat-racer series. The best way to celebrate this is, of course, to make a new entry, which is just what Stainless is doing with Carmageddon: Reincarnation.

"Carmageddon: Reincarnation will feature the same black humour and comic violence that made the original game such a success." said Stainless co-founder Neil Barnden in the announcement. "All the laughs, the crazy power-ups, and extreme destruction will return. We will make sure the existing fans get what they want and expect from a Carmageddon game, and a new generation discovers the delights of sliding into a Cunning Stunt." Read more »
