It's Wednesday morning, Shack, and a hump day. First off, I want to offer a happy birthday to the gaming industry we know and love. It was around this date 40 years ago that the first home gaming system, the Magnavox Odyssey, was sold. Some good memories there, but I must admit that when I think I used to put things over the TV screen to simulate different venues for a little white square going back and forth, I cringe a little at my naivete. But fun is what we make it, right?
Some good topics today, but we'll start with how stupid some gamers can be.

As with many Call of Duty games before it, Black Ops 2 will be getting special editions for the hardest of the hardcore fans. Launching on November 13th are the "Hardened" and "Care Package Prestige" editions of Treyarch's shooter.
The Hardened Edition ($79.99) will include the Nuketown 2025 pre-order bonus and a brand new map, Nuketown Zombies. In addition, the collection will offer limited edition challenge coins, exclusive weapon camo, exclusive player card backgrounds, and the official soundtrack--all housed in a collectible steelbook. The Xbox 360 version will include Avatar props and costumes, while the PS3 version will include two XMB themes.

Could the next Call of Duty be gracing Nintendo's next generation console? Signs point to "yes."
Previous Call of Duty games, including Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops, have graced the original Wii. Given Wii U brings Nintendo in line with the current generation of consoles, it would be a far easier port for Activision to pursue.

Black Ops 2 takes the franchise to the near-future. So, how will the new setting change multiplayer? Treyarch and Activision has released a brand new trailer showing off the game's new online offerings. You'll notice some throwable melee weapons, riot shields, drones, and vehicles.
The game will be out on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 this November. Pre-orders come with a bonus remade Nuketown 2025 multiplayer map.

Activision's Q2 2012 results were released today, boasting positive results and an optimistic outlook for the rest of the fiscal year. The quarter ending on June 30 saw non-GAAP revenues of $1.05 billion, an improvement over its forecast of $950 million. It credited the success of Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure and Diablo 3 for the results, even as it acknowledged some shifting habits in its other big franchises.

If you ask someone what their most anticipated game is, you'll usually get a variety of answers, with a few games mentioned more than others. Marketing and metrics firm Nielsen gathered up some numbers after E3 and now tells us what we really want on the consoles.

The latest trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 goes behind the scenes on the game. In the video, writer David Goyer (The Dark Knight Rises) and composer Trent Reznor, talk about their involvement with the upcoming shooter.
"We were approaching it in some ways as a big event movie," said Goyer. "Even though its a first-person shooter, it's got to be sophisticated, It's got to be funny, it's got to be challenging and have twists and turns."

So who's responsible for the crazy future war we're seeing in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2? A man named Raul Menendez. Treyarch and Activision have released the "Villain" trailer for the upcoming shooter, and it profiles a man that has been heralded as "the Messiah of the 99%." Unfortunately for the 99%, it appears his plan involves blowing up the world. Drats.

Activision has been releasing mobile Call of Duty tie-ins for a few years, and now the company has put one of its multitude of studios in charge of the operation. According to an industry source, Activision Leeds is now heading up all of the iOS versions, but the company is still cross-pollinating quite a bit to trade assets and materials.

One of the most popular multiplayer maps from the original Call of Duty: Black Ops is making a comeback for Black Ops 2. It will be getting a facelift to make it "Nuketown 2025," and will be available to download at launch as a pre-order bonus. Activision didn't give word on when it might become available for players at large.

Activision has registered several domain names related to Call of Duty and China -- not to be confused with Chinese domain names. The company registered 17 in all, with names like CallOfDutyChina.com, BlackOpsChina.com, and ModernWarfareChina.com.
