The war-based shooter Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (PC, PS3, 360) has now sold over 10 million units worldwide, according to developer Infinity Ward.
Studio head Vince Zampella informed CNET of the milestone. He was was unsure of the exact breakdown per platform, but said that the Xbox 360 version is the top-seller. Read more »

The first downloadable map pack for Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will hit PCs on June 5, the developer has revealed.
Dubbed the Variety Map Pack, it brings four new multiplayer maps to the fold: Creek, Broadcast, Killhouse, and Chinatown, a remake of the classic CoD map Carentan.

Confirming earlier reports, publisher Activision has reaffirmed that the first downloadable map pack for Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will arrive on the PlayStation 3 this Thursday, April 24.
Priced at $9.99, the Variety Map Pack includes four multiplayer maps: Creek, Broadcast, Killhouse, and Chinatown (a remake of the classic CoD map Carentan). Read more »

Publisher Activision recently revealed that its Foster City, CA-based Underground Development studio will be closed by the end of May, GamesIndustry reports.
The studio, which employs some 45 people, most recently worked on the PlayStation 3 port of Splash Damage's Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (PC, PS3, X360). Activision noted that it is trying to find opportunities for all of its employees at other studios owned by the company. Read more »

Publisher Activision announced today that the Variety Map Pack for Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare exceeded one million downloads in the first nine days of its release, setting a new record for paid downloads on the Xbox Live Marketplace.
The content was released on Xbox Live on April 10, priced at 800 Microsoft Points ($10). The map pack is scheduled to drop on PS3s via the PlayStation Store on April 24. Read more »

id Software's Kevin Cloud revealed that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Splash Damage's Enemy Territory: Quake Wars will hit retail shelves on May 27. Publisher Activision also revealed new screenshots and a new trailer for the upcoming title.
Released for PCs last September, Quake Wars is being developed for the PS3 and Xbox 360 by Z-Axis and Nerve Software, respectively. The title will run gamers $59.99 on both platforms. Read more »

Infinity Ward announced today that the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (PC, PS3, X360) Variety Map Pack will be released on North American PlayStation 3s on April 24, and in Europe a week later.
The new content, which was released on the Xbox 360 earlier this month, will be available as part of next Thursday's PlayStation Store update at a $9.99 price point. Read more »

The console editions of id Software and Splash Damage's class-based multiplayer shooter Enemy Territory: Quake Wars will hit Europe on May 30, IGN reports. Both are based on the PC edition that arrived late last year.
While publisher Activision has yet to specify a date for North America, several retailers--including EBGames and Amazon.com--are listing a May 27 release. While retailer dates are usually considered placeholder until confirmed by a publisher, the date's proximity to the European release gives it some credence. Read more »

There's something special about Bungie's press demonstration get-togethers. It's a magic formula that mixes sleep deprivation, pizza, and sixteen journalists, resulting in the most raucous bunch of unruly bastards you've ever heard. It's a spectacle of such magnitude that it was almost difficult to pay attention to the content on display, rather than my esteemed colleagues calling me "bitch" while smearing my head into the pavement.
But ghastly failures aside, I did manage to walk away from the slaughter with a fair idea of what to expect when the Halo 3 Legendary map pack goes live next week. Three new maps—two remakes, one brand new—might not be the weightiest offering of downloadable content yet seen on the Xbox Live Marketplace, but should prove a worthwhile addition to the burgeoning roster of Halo 3's multiplayer offerings. Bungie Studios has released a new trailer of its upcoming Legendary map pack for Halo 3 on Xbox Live. The video is available for download on FileShack, or in streaming format below.
