Epic Games has made an honest studio of Gears of War: Judgment dev People Can Fly, five years after acquiring the majority stake in the company. Epic head Mark Rein said the studio buy-out led to the departure of three PCF studio heads: Adrian Chmierlarz, Andrzej Poznanski, and Michal Kosieradzki.
"We doubled down on People Can Fly," Rein said. "It was something we always hoped to do."

A sequel to delightfully silly and sweary shooter Bulletstorm had once been in the works, Epic Games has revealed, but sadly it wasn't to be. The project was cancelled, and co-developer People Can Fly was put to work on a mysterious new project. When life gives you dick-lemons, make dick-lemonade.
"We thought a lot about a sequel, and had done some initial development on it, but we found a project that we thought was a better fit for People Can Fly," Epic president Mike Capps said.

The bum-blasting Bulletstorm "didn't make money for us," Epic Games president Mike Capps has told Kotaku. All the same, Capps stands by the shooter developed by its subsidiary studio People Can Fly.
Capp explained that Epic could have simply put People Can Fly to work making content for the hugely successful Gears of War series rather than take a chance on Bulletstorm. However, he said, that's not the sort of thing Epic wants itself or People Can Fly doing. And, presumably, Epic would've been quite pleased had it ended up with a new smash-hit franchise. Read more »

Roughly one month after the console versions, the Bulletstorm "Gun Sonata" downloadable content is now out for PC. Like the console versions, it will cost you $9.99 for the set. Among the goodies are three maps for Anarchy mode: the Sewers of Stygia, Hotel Elysium, and the Villa. The pack also includes two Echo mode maps, called Crash Site and Guns of Stygia.
The PC crowd has been made to wait more than once for Bulletstorm content, after a wait of more than two months for the PC demo. By comparison, a one-month wait cut the time in half. Progress! Read more »

In February, Epic Games boldly announced a Bulletstorm downloadable content before the game had even launched. That pack, named Gun Sonata, is now available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for $9.99 (800 Microsoft Points).
Gun Sonata adds three new arenas for the Anarchy multiplayer mode, along with two new maps for the single-player score attack Echo mode. You also get another two Leash enhancements, the charmingly-named Flamingo and Pulp. Read more »

The long-promised demo for the PC edition of People Can Fly and Epic's bum-blasting Bulletstorm was finally released yesterday. You can grab the 1.8GB-ish download from Steam or Games for Windows.
The PC demo contains the same very small section seen in the console demo, which came out way back on January 25. One single level from Bulletstorm's time attack mode Echo is on offer, urging you to replay the single-player snippet to climb the online leaderboards. And to discover new and increasingly extravagant ways to kill people, of course. Read more »

If you ever find yourself defending the artistic and intelligent nature of modern video games, hope those debating against you have never seen Bulletstorm in action. The newest shooter from the Epic Games-owned developer People Can Fly, is an over-the-top title that revels in its childishness rather than hide from it.
Bulletstorm's story and characters are crass and juvenile. They take their cue from the action. It sets the tone by rewarding players for shooting enemies in the anus, for example, and spewing off more mentions of "dick" than a Nixon documentary. Read more »

In "old Shack" we would use the Weekend Discussion post as a platform for the editors at Shacknews to discuss what games they would be enjoying over the weekend. As outlined in this Chatty post, that doesn't really work with the new format.
What we've decided to do is to bring the conversation here, to a frontpage post. This allows us to highlight Chatty on the frontpage as it was in the past and--with the link between comments on the frontpage and in Chatty--give our users a place to share their current gaming experiences. While Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners have been able to play a Bulletstorm demo for almost a month now, PC gamers were given the cold shoulder. Thankfully, there's now word that the poor lambs will also get to try out People Can Fly and Epic's shooter.
"Bulletstorm PC demo is in the works!" Epic Games co-founder Mark Rein proclaimed on Twitter. "Won't make it in time for ship date but should be available shortly after." Read more »

The marketing muscle behind the upcoming People Can Fly shooter Bulletstorm have taken the time to examine the horrors of modern war. Apparently, they're as impressed with current combat as they were with space marines.
In a parody game for PC entitled "Duty Calls: The Call Before the Storm," players run through a "real-life war scenario" as a modern day soldier firing bullets that scream "boring" as they land into verbose enemy characters. (Watch the trailer after the break or on the game's official site.) Read more »
