Atomic Games has sent word that a PC patch--presumably developed at a secret military complex--for its recently released shooter Breach is currently available to help reduce multiplayer lag.
The patch's secondary mission is to give players the ability to launch dedicated servers without requiring Steam to be executed. More information on server functionality can be found on the official Breach forum. Read more »

Justin May, the twenty year-old accused of attempting to steal the game code of Atomic Games' Breach at PAX East 2010, has been placed on an 18-month, pre-trial probation (via Joystiq).
According to the terms of the probation, May must "stay in school, not reoffend, stay off of Xbox Live web sites, and forfeit his computer, which was seized at the time of his arrest" for 18 months. If he does this, the case will be dropped. Read more »

Back in July, when Atomic Games announced that their upcoming downloadable shooter Breach was being pushed to January 2011, the developer revealed that the additional time was being used to create a special "Hardcore" mode for the game.
Fresh details have emerged today for the mode that will add even more simulation-like elements to a shooter that already contains destructible buildings and cover, and accurately simulates stuff like the range, velocity, and caliber of small arms. Apparently, Hardcore mode was created because "some organizations that use other Atomic training systems" were interested "in using a modified version of Breach as a training aid for their operatives." Hardcore indeed. Read more »

The Xbox Live Arcade edition of Atomic Games' military shooter Breach has been delayed until January, the developer announced today, though this extra time will be used to add a "Hardcore" mode similar to the military simulations it also creates.
"While work on Breach is actually done," According to Atomic president Peter Tamte in the delay announcement, "we did miss our small window with Microsoft to get it up on Xbox LIVE Arcade for Xbox 360 in late June as we had planned." Read more »

Justin May, the man accused of trying to steal a copy of Breach during PAX East 2010, had his first day in court today, pleading not guilty to the charges levied against him.
May faces charges of larceny and trade secret after the events of the trade show. According to Breach maker Atomic Games, May "used his laptop to hack into an Xbox 360 Test Kit being used to demonstrate the game" and "downloaded about 14 megabytes" before fleeing the scene and eventually being apprehended by police. On Monday, Atomic Games announced Breach with little to no detail. Today, they stopped holding back. The game uses technology developed for Six Days in Fallujah to offer fully-destructible buildings and cover.
The game is playable at PAX East 2010, but I had a chance to play a build of the game on the Xbox 360 earlier this week and I came away impressed. The game is still a little rough around the edges, lacking the polish of a final version, but I had a really great time playing against Atomic's QA team. Read more »
