Borderlands 2's second downloadable content character, Krieg the Psycho, is set to release next week. While each of the characters have been nicely differentiated, Gearbox faced a new kind of challenge with this character. How do you create a player character that actually feels like the series' most iconic (and extremely aggressive) enemies?

The second DLC character for Borderlands 2 will storm in next Tuesday, May 14, developer Gearbox has revealed. Krieg the Psycho will be running around, cutting men up and generally being a bit mentally unstable, even by the standards of the mass-murdering Vault Hunters.

If you own an Xbox 360, and particularly if you only own an Xbox 360, the Gold requirement for online play and services can be a pain. This weekend, Microsoft is offering a cooling salve, in the form of free access, so you can join those with disposable income in watching movies and hearing preteens shout racist epithets at you for stealing their kill.

Borderlands is being turned into a cartoon. But, in quite an unusual way.
Gearbox has announced a new partnership with the Academy of Art University that will have students working together to create an original animated short film set in the Borderlands universe. The "Borderlands Cooperative" will have students from multiple disciplines work together to make the film a reality--before its end-of-year deadline.

Borderlands 2 fans want an increase in the game's level cap. But, it's not as easy as turning on a switch, Gearbox Software's Randy Pitchford explained. According to Pitchford, the experience system of Borderlands 2 is "complete," and that simply raising the level cap could lead to "game-breaking" situations.
"We don't just want the numbers to increase, we want the skill points. And some of the skill points are mutually exclusive; they're designed so that you know what you can build in terms of the trade-off between different trees. You can't fully build out two trees," he explained.

Borderlands 2 has enjoyed a certain level of sustained success, thanks to its steady stream of downloadable content and varied classes. One element new to the series that has kept fans coming back, though, has been the Shift codes. Initially a fairly rare novelty, Gearbox has been keeping players engaged with social events handing out the codes like candy. Gearbox president Randy Pitchford sees this as a system they can get use out of in other games and franchises.

In Spoiler-Talk, we take a no-holds-barred look at some of the biggest games and discuss what the future holds for these franchises. Expect many, many spoilers.
The original Borderlands had a lot of things going for it, but plot wasn't one of them. Its sequel was almost universally praised for upping the ante in this respect, creating a richer world with clever writing. The dark humor was punctuated by real emotional stakes. We've already talked to lead writer Anthony Burch about how he used death to make the plot carry more weight. A look back at the game's story shows it had a pretty high body count that escalated, as if daring itself to go further with each one.
