BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger for the PSP released in North America on March 9 on UMD (with its digital counterpart still to come). While the revised BlazBlue: Continuum Shift is slated for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in the summer, PSP owners can get in on the action now.
The PSP version is an amazing port of the next-gen game. It looks great and plays flawlessly, depending on your personal level of comfort with the PSP's directional pad and buttons. The game's full Story mode is presented along with all of the voice acting. Multiplayer is limited to ad-hoc, but the PSP version picks up Legion Mode, exclusive to this version of Calamity Trigger. With Square Enix's long-awaited role-playing sequel Final Fantasy XIII having just hit Europe and North America, the company passed along some shipment figures.
In all, over five million copies of Final Fantasy XIII have shipped since the PlayStation 3 version hit Japan in December 2009. Of that sum, the North American and European shipments of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 editions make up over three million. Read more »

The prettied-up iPhone and iPod Touch versions of Square's classic RPGs Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II have arrived today on iTunes.
The pair are priced at $8.99 apiece and weigh in at 72MB and 143MB respectively. Read more »

The first two entries in Square's much-beloved Final Fantasy series are headed to the iPhone with revamped graphics, Square Enix has announced via Facebook.
Final Fantasy II is the original Japanese title--not to be confused with the game released in North America under the name Final Fantasy II, which was in fact Final Fantasy IV. Read more »

Following the closure of Bionic Commando and Terminator Salvation developer GRIN, word emerged that the Sweedish studio had been working on a new Final Fantasy.
Now, a narrated video made by GRIN's former sound designer Jonatan Crafoord has begun making the rounds with sounds and footage from the supposed action-centric Final Fantasy XII spinoff, including a peek of the series' iconic Chocobo. Read more »

When Bionic Commando and Terminator Salvation game developer GRIN closed earlier this month, the studio lamented that it had an "unreleased masterpiece that we weren't allowed to finish"--a title that now appears to have been a new Final Fantasy entry.
Various LinkedIn listings uncovered by superannuation indicate that GRIN was working with Final Fantasy owner Square Enix on a project codenamed "Fortress," with one ex-staffer noting his work at GRIN on an "unannounced Final Fantasy project." Read more »

With Square Enix's $120 million purchase of Eidos now complete, lifetime sales figures of their major franchises have been revealed.
The information was provided as part of Square Enix's "Corporate Strategy Meeting," during which the company discussed "synergies" and presented materials on the "Eidos Integration."

In an industry that is increasingly filled with buyouts and acquisitions, the importance of working with or outright buying other companies has not gone unnoticed by Japanese publisher Square Enix.
"It may be a business alliance or it may be us taking a stake in others, but we need to go beyond traditional Square Enix," Square Enix president Yoichi Wada told Reuters of his company's future. "Economies of scale and breadth of scope are getting important." Read more »

Square Enix will launch its first WiiWare title Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As a King on May 12 for 1500 Wii points ($15), according to Wii fansite The Wiire.
The release date coincides with Nintendo's previously announced launch date for its WiiWare downloadable game platform. Other studios currently developing software for the platform include Nintendo, Frontier Developments and Telltale Games. Read more »
