We're treated to a splendid tour of BioShock Infinite's setting in the E3 trailer, as former Pinkerton protagonist Booker Dewitt swings through the sky-city Columbia on its sky-line rail transport, dispatching ruffians as he goes. There's a young lady relying on him to rescue her, you see.

The striking announcement of BioShock Infinite, which introduced the cloud city of Columbia, instantly sparked the imagination. Anticipation rocketed on the thought of how the creators of the original BioShock's underwater utopia-gone-wrong called Rapture might work similar magic on a turn of the 20th century city in the sky. The E3 demo of BioShock Infinite offers ample reassurance that those hopes were not misplaced.

Irrational Games boss Ken Levine knows that most strategies for survival in the original BioShock ended with the constant use of the Elecrto-Bolt and shotgun; however, he hopes players will see the benefit in using the range of tools available for encounters in BioShock Infinite.
In an interview on the PlayStation Blog, Levine noted that the tight spaces and low enemy count per encounter in the original BioShock made falling back on specific weapons an easy decision. In BioShock Infinite, areas are open and can house multiple enemies--sometimes more than a dozen--forcing players to utilize the game's entire arsenal of weapons and abilities. Read more »

Although the nine minute gameplay video for Irrational's second foray into the world of BioShock was set to hit tomorrow, the internet is an impatient place. Surprise only begins to describe the reaction to developer Irrational Games' announcing the return of the Bioshock name to its next game. At the press event in New York City its official unveiling played out in high drama. Studio head Ken Levine gave a brief introduction, coyly leaving off the name, before showing the trailer (which you can see for yourself below).
As it begins we're given glimpses of Irrational's previous work, a Big Daddy statue sits at the bottom of an aquarium before being crushed under the foot of a new behemoth; one of many scattered throughout the cloud city the game is set within. And with that, BioShock Infinite took the stage. Read more »
