The Canberra, Australia-based division of 2K Marin, which was previously named 2K Australia, has once again been given that moniker and is working with Irrational Games on BioShock Infinite, MCV Pacific has reported.
Later, Irrational boss Ken Levine confirmed the story, telling Joystiq: "We had a number of open positions on BioShock Infinite. When we found out our former sister studio 2K Australia was becoming available, we thought they would perfectly fill those roles."

BioShock owes some of its fame to the iconic Big Daddies, who stomped around the Rapture seascape and attacked when provoked. For BioShock Infinite, series creator Ken Levine went back to the drawing board on creating a new monster, and came up with the Songbird.
"Basically he's a bit of a boogeyman in Columbia," Levine said. "It's what parents tell their kids to scare them and make sure they eat their vegetables at night."

Even if he usually doesn't dip his toes into specifics, the tone of Ken Levine's games is more than enough to identify him as someone interested in history and politics. So it isn't very surprising that he's been paying attention to the recent Occupy Wall Street protests, and seeing parallels to his own upcoming game BioShock Infinite. The conflict between the xenophobic Founders and the communist-turned-militant Vox Populi is the centerpiece for a lot of the action, and Levine recently spoke about where the groups intersect with modern politics.

Gabe Newell did a surprising about-face at E3 2010 by appearing at the Sony press conference to declare some nifty PlayStation 3-exclusive features for Portal 2. Sony might be making it a yearly tradition, as this year Irrational head Ken Levine appeared on stage to talk up the PS3 version of BioShock Infinite, and he promised a Vita BioShock title to boot.
In a new wide-ranging interview, Levine shows a desire to do right by PS3-owners after former timed exclusivity with rival Xbox 360, talks about his attitude towards stereoscopic 3D, and hints at a plan to add replay value to the game.

Following E3, various outlets--Shacknews included--are invited every year to vote on the best of E3. After careful deliberation, the winners have been decided! Irrational Games' BioShock Infinite took home the top prizes, including Best of Show, Best Original Game and Best PC Game. Unexpectedly, Bethesda's Elder Scrolls game took home the award for Best Console Game.
PlayStation Vita beat out the Nintendo WiiU for Best Hardware, likely boosted by the strong showing of Sound Shapes (which also won Best Handheld Game and Best Casual Game). Nintendo didn't exactly get snubbed, though. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword took the prize as Best Motion Game, besting the new efforts of PlayStation Move and Kinect. Read more »

The latest dev diary for BioShock Infinite details Elizabeth's unique ability to manipulate "tears," what designer Ken Levine calls "windows into other worlds." These tears represent, essentially, other dimensions, and players can use Elizabeth's power to make progress through the game. In one gaemplay sequence, the video shows the player summoning a piece of cover to hide behind.
Because Elizabeth can only access one tear at a time, players can employ different strategies for every scenario. "Everybody's play experience is going to be different," Levine promises. Read more »

E3 2011 has come and gone, but that just means it's time to vote on which games get the proverbial hearty pat on the back for a good show. Gamasutra breaks down the nominees for the Game Critics' Best of E3 awards, and a few high-profile games are leading the pack.
BioShock Infinite and Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception tied for the most nominations at four each. The two shared a nod for Best of Show and Best Action-Adventure Game. Infinite is also nominated for Best Original Game and Best PC Game, while Uncharted is up for Best Console Game and Best Online Multiplayer Game. Read more »

When you arrive on Columbia in BioShock Infinite, groups are already fighting, killing, and generally making the place a bloody wreck. That's sort of BioShock's thing. But just in case you want a deeper understanding of the political disagreements that led to all-out war, Irrational Games has released a new "Factions at War" trailer.
In it, Ken Levine explains the heady ideals of Columbia and the political turmoil that tore it apart. Plus we get to see plenty of the beautiful steampunk setting, and hear some personality from the protagonist. Check it out below, and read up on our E3 preview for hands-on impressions. Read more »

Irrational Games has released a developer diary that outlines some of the history behind the "Sky-Lines" in BioShock Infinite.
As explained by Ken Levine, the rail lines that connect sections of Columbia--the game's set-piece floating city--were originally intended to be used for transport of goods. Evidently, a bunch of pesky kids realized they could use the Sky-Line for personal transport and, as the city began to self-destruct, a new method of travel was born. Read more »
