March 2013 NPD: BioShock Infinite takes top spot in crowded month

BioShock Infinite took the top position on the NPD charts. The rebooted Tomb Raider took the second place position. According to NPD Group industry analyst Liam Callahan, the two games had "the highest first month sales for games in these franchises."

The two console-exclusive "of War" prequels took the next positions, even if sales are lower than usual for both franchises.

The critically-panned Walking Dead: Survival Instinct from Activision also topped the charts, proving that well-timed licensed software can still push units, regardless of quality.

Valve refunds gamer due to BioShock Infinite's religious content

Players are forced to make choices in games all the time, and most of the time those choices have little bearing on one's personal life. But what if a portion of a game went against your religious beliefs? Apparently one person felt so strongly about a certain part in BioShock Infinite that they returned the game.

Epic's former production director Rod Fergusson joined Irrational Games in August to help wrap up development on BioShock Infinite. As EVP of development, Fergusson joined the team at a time when rumors suggested there was trouble surrounding the long-in-development title. As the game's "closer," Fergusson helped ship Infinite to pretty wonderful reviews.

Eight months after joining Irrational Games, it appears Fergusson is ready to move on.

How four women created Elizabeth for BioShock Infinite

How four women created Elizabeth for BioShock Infinite

Apparently, Elizabeth from BioShock Infinite is something of a franken-woman. According to a new video released by Irrational Games, her character was constructed from four different people. Courtnee Draper gives her her voice, while Heather Gordon is her motion capture actress. Character motivations come from level designer Amanda Jeffrey, while her real-life persona from Russian cosplay personality Anna "Omerli" Moleva.

BioShock Infinite PC and its many pre-order bonuses

BioShock Infinite PC and its many pre-order bonuses

It's common practice for AAA games to offer a variety of retailer-exclusive pre-order bonuses. The upcoming BioShock Infinite is no different. What makes Irrational Games' upcoming title so unique is how different each retailer's offering is.

Steam takes the most novel approach, with a tiered system that promises more bonuses based on the quantity of pre-orders. Already, players have unlocked the first tier of reward: the original BioShock, which can be gifted if you already own it. Later tiers include exclusive Team Fortress 2 items and, ultimately, a free copy of XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

BioShock Infinite trailer: saving the Lamb of Columbia

With the power to open rifts into other realities and even the 1980s, BioShock Infinite co-star Elizabeth is clearly very special and important. Why, just think of the fortunes you could make by popping back to stock up on ironic vintage t-shirts before they were ironic or vintage! A new trailer's dedicated to the so-called Lamb of Columbia, who you're sent to rescue and the floating city's determined to keep locked away.

BioShock Infinite trailer continues Columbia, a Modern Day Icarus

Dear publishers, if you are insistent upon releasing trailers that show anything other than gameplay footage (and I imagine you are, what with them really helping sell games and all but shh I am feigning indignation), please take some hint from BioShock Infinite's fine series 'Columbia, a Modern Day Icarus?'. No pre-rendered cinematics, dragging shots of developers talking, or staged in-engine nonsense, just delightful flavour. Part two's out now, by the way.
