Ubisoft has a weird, semi-neglectful relationship with Beyond Good & Evil 2. The company keeps reassuring us that it's still an active project, only to then forget to say or show anything about it for months at a time. Most recently we heard that the game is too ambitious for this generation, but that hasn't stopped series creator Michel Ancel from showing off concept art at the Montpellier in Game 2011 conference.

Apparently the game has been put on hold, and may even get pushed to the next generation of consoles, according to project lead Michel Ancel. "Before Rayman we were working on Beyond Good & Evil 2," Ancel told Joystiq. "And the project is still on the tracks. I'd love to come back to it."

When Ubisoft announced its less-than-stellar financial results last night, it also terminated unnamed projects as part of a restructuring for the coming year. We feared this might mean the end for games we haven't heard from in a while, like I Am Alive and Beyond Good & Evil 2. Apparently, not to worry.

"The [new Assassin's Creed] will take place with the same hero, which is Ezio, and will follow-up the story that took place in Assassin's Creed 2," the company explained during a recent conference call, as reported by CVG, with CEO Yves Guillemot noting that it will also have an "offline component" and will be sold at a "full price point." A video found on French site Eversonic appears to be a proof-of-concept for Ubisoft's upcoming Beyond Good & Evil sequel.
The footage, noticed by Kotaku, shows a female avatar--closely resembling the look of character Jade from the first Beyond Good & Evil 2 trailer--traversing an urban cityscape. The unlocked camera suggests that the footage is either an in-game cinematic or proof-of-concept video. Read more »

The sequel to Ubisoft's action-adventure title Beyond Good & Evil will appeal to casual gamers moreso than the first game, Ubisoft president Yves Guillemot said at the recent Ubidays press event in Paris.
"We saw with Beyond Good & Evil that so many customers were extremely happy with the game," said Guillemot to Next-Gen. "We had a different audience at that time. We had more core gamers than casual gamers than we have today." Read more »
