All signs we've seen from Platinum Games' Anarchy Reigns indicate that it's a big ol' ball of crazy. So it makes a strange kind of insular sense that the game would include a cameo from Platinum's last prominent example of gonzo game design: Bayonetta. The sexy-librarian witch has been outed for an appearance in the game.

Despite an admittedly stagnant Japanese economy and "generally weak" demand for video games in North America and Europe, things are looking up for entertainment conglomerate SEGA SAMMY compared to where it was a year ago.
Though net sales between April and December 2009 were down 7.7% over the previous year, the company saw net income of 16.94 billion yen ($189.9M USD)--a significant improvement over the previous year's net loss of 10.84 billion yen ($121.5M USD). Read more »

In an effort to address some of the complaints surrounding the PlayStation 3 version of Bayonetta, publisher SEGA has released a downloadable update for the game.
The patch adds the option for PlayStation 3 players to install the game to their hard drive. Doing so "significantly decreases the loading times for the game," according to SEGA. Players will be prompted to download the update upon booting the game while connected to the online PlayStation Network. Read more »

Bayonetta's U.S. release date is just a few weeks away, and we've got another gameplay trailer for you. This time around the titular heroine shows her ability to appropriate the weapons of her enemies and then use them beat her foes senseless.

A downloadable sampling of Platinum Games' sadistic shooter Bayonetta is due in North America and Europe on Thursday, December 3, publisher Sega revealed today.
Arriving in both the PlayStation 3's PlayStaiton Store and the Xbox 360's Xbox Live Marketplace on that day, the demo provides a playable glimpse of the latest from Devil May Cry creator Hideki Kamiya, in which players take control of an angel-slaying protagonist clothed by her own magical hair. In this new developer diary for Bayonetta, director Hideki Kamiya shares some more details about the hair-clad anti-heroine's over-the-top special moves called 'Torture Attacks,' and how they relate to her troubled past. According to Kamiya, the Torture Attacks are representative of the specific cruelties Bayonetta was subjected to as the sole survivor of a brutal witch hunt.
"The demons she summons symbolize her evil spirit in an extreme way," Kamiya explains. The trailer's most extreme example comes in the form of a gigantic demon Bayonetta can summon to nosh her enemies like handfulls of bloody Doritos. Crunch all you want... Read more »

Another new trailer for Bayonetta is here, explaining how the hair-shirted heroine can build up her magical energy by slaying demons, and use it to unleash powerful "Torture Attacks" on her foes. Iron maidens, guillotines, and high-caliber heels included.

The Platinum Games team has released a new Bayonetta dev diary that might just make you ever so slightly less baffled by Devil May Cry creator Hideki Kamiya's latest action game. You'll still be flabbergasted by angels wielding fire-blasting trombones and Bayonetta's catsuit of hair, but at least you'll know some of the ideas behind them.

Several new games will soon be added to the Xbox 360 Platinum Hits lineup, Microsoft announced tonight.
Left 4 Dead, Grand Theft Auto 4, Street Fighter 4, Saints Row 2 and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will all soon be branded with the Platinum moniker and appropriately discounted.
