Battlestar Galactica Online now boasts more than five million registered players, Bigpoint revealed today. The browser-based free-to-play MMO based on the television series achieved this mark in only six months since its February launch. Building on that momentum, the company also shared plans for new ships being added to the game in the coming months.

The Battlestar Galactica Online open beta has finally begun, letting all interested pilots hop into a Viper or Cylon Raider to check out Artplant's browser-based MMO adaptation of the religious TV space opera.
While players might start off battling each other in such lowly--albeit iconic--ships, new vessels will be unlocked by gaining experience and can be customised with new tech and equipment. As the game runs under a free-to-play model, it's no surprise that players will be able to buy gear with Earth Dollars if they don't fancy earning it the hard way. Read more »

Battlestar Galactica Online--the massively multiplayer browser-based game from developer Artplant--has begun initial public beta testing, the game's publisher, BigPoint, revealed today.
The closed beta will be offered to "thousands of hand-selected players from Europe and the United States" and gives players the opportunity to command space as either a human or Cylon fighter. According to the game's website, in order to be considered a potential closed beta tester, players need to register at Bigpoint and fill out a detailed survey. Read more »

A massively multiplayer game based off popular science fiction television series Battlestar Galactica is due to launch this fall, license holder NBC Universal announced today.
A client-free and browser-based affair said to pack "state of the art graphics," Battlestar Galactica Online is being powered by Unity--the same technology used by EA's broswer-based Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online. Read more »
