Battlefield 4 Premium sales reach 1.6 million

Battlefield 4 Premium sales reach 1.6 million

In spite of all its bugs, and in spite of DICE publicly announcing it had suspended development of DLC, Battlefield 4's "Premium" Season Pass has already sold 1.6 million, publisher Electronic Arts revealed in a financial call today. That puts it on par with sales of Battlefield 3 Premium, which reached 1.3 million sales in two months. If EA is able to maintain momentum, it may be able to match the 4 million sales that BF3's DLC offering managed.

Battlefield 4 patched on PC today, PS4 & PS3 tomorrow

Battlefield 4 launched in a wonky enough state that disgruntled shareholders have launched a class-action lawsuit over how it effected EA's share price, but bless its heart, developer DICE has been trying. The PC edition has received a new patch today, targeting more of those nasty crashes, and both PlayStation 4 and PS3 versions are being patched tomorrow too.

EA hit with class action lawsuit over Battlefield 4 bugs

EA hit with class action lawsuit over Battlefield 4 bugs

Battlefield 4 launched riddled with bugs. Since then, EA and DICE have suspended development of DLC as it continues to roll out updates that try to make the game more stable for players. Unsurprisingly, a class action lawsuit has been filed regarding Battlefield's bumpy launch. However, what is surprising is who is filing the suit.

The class action covers investors, anyone who purchased EA common stock between July 24 and December 4. The reason? The complaint alleges that EA over-promised on Battlefield 4, and that the glitchy launch has stunted the game's sales--which, in turn, has lowered the stock value for investors.

Battlefield 4 PS4 patch aims at crashes

As pleasant as Battlefield 4 may be, it's also a mite wonky--enough so that developer DICE paused work on its DLC until the FPS is in better shape. The PC version got a little TLC earlier this week, and now it's the PS4's turn. A new patch today brings plenty of crash fixes, and a few other tweaks.

Weekend Confirmed 194 - Gran Turismo 6, Tearaway

Jeff Cannata is in the Big Apple this weekend, which leaves host Garnett Lee to lead this week's episode of Weekend Confirmed solo. He welcomes in Shacknews' Ozzie Mejia, Christian Spicer, and Nikole Zivalich and they lead off the show by discussing the increasing problems plaguing Battlefield 4 and where the game goes from here. The show then goes handheld, as Christian discusses everything that makes Media Molecule's Tearaway a sublime experience before Ozzie and Nikole dive into The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. As you might expect, this leads to a comparison of the two handhelds. Afterwards, Garnett takes the floor and discusses the good and the bad of Gran Turismo 6, taking a critical look at its microtransactions before discussing everything that makes it a more-than-worth entry to the long-running series. The show wraps up with new Finishing Moves and the post-show Tailgate.

Battlefield 4 expansion development suspended

Battlefield 4 expansion development suspended

Many players are angry at EA and DICE for shipping the China Rising expansion for Battlefield 4--especially as ongoing issues plague all versions of the game. A promised patch for PS4, for example, was delayed. New problems seem to be caused by the expansion, with some players unable to connect to the game's servers.

While DICE and EA have offered players double XP as a token of their "appreciation," the company is going one step further until the ongoing issues are fixed. No further expansions will be released until the game is running as it should.

Battlefield 4 'player appreciation' will offer double XP

Battlefield game launches are almost guaranteed to fumble out of the gate. DICE's Karl Magnus Troedsson is apologizing for the unstable online performance of Battlefield 4, acknowledged that some platforms have "had more than their fair share of issues." He promises that the team is currently focused on fixing the game, which launched on Xbox One today.

"Resolving the launch issues is our #1 priority. In fact, we are so serious that we have the entire team working to stabilize the game and we will not move on to other projects until we are sure that Battlefield 4 meets--and exceeds--your expectations. It is the right thing to do."

Battlefield games are 'two year projects'

Battlefield games are 'two year projects'

Electronic Arts has avoided annualizing the Battlefield series, in spite of the success Activision has had with the Call of Duty franchise. EA CFO Blake Jorgensen pointed out the many reasons why the company doesn't believe that's a smart decision for them.

"It's a two year project," he said, pointing out that "Battlefield takes us about two years to develop." Indeed, two years separate Battlefield 3 and 4. However, he also added that "Battlefield is a product that doesn't just sell once; it sells for 24 months associated with not just Battlefield, but all the additional Battlefield Premium activities that the consumer wants."
