Batman: Arkham Origins 'Cold, Cold Heart' video shows new gameplay

It's odd to think that Arkham Knight isn't the only Batman adventure coming this year. No, there's still the "Cold, Cold Heart" DLC for Batman: Arkham Origins.

Starring Mr. Freeze, the new adventure takes place after the events of the main campaign. Creative director Eric Holmes and game director Benoit Richer explain that WB Montreal wanted to include the villain in Origins, but couldn't figure out a way to make him fit the game's assassins narrative. Freeze isn't an assassin, it's against his character.

As promised, Batman: Arkham Origins will be getting story-based DLC. "Cold Cold Heart" will be available on April 22, and it will tell the origin story of Mr. Freeze in the Arkhamverse. Described as a "mini chapter of the game," this add-on will include in-game missions alongside a brand new story.

New gadgets will also be introduced in the expansion. Of note is the XC, short for "extreme conditions." It will change gameplay to make Batman more resilient to the extreme weather effects of Mr. Freeze's henchmen.

Batman: Arkham Origins game-breaking bugs unlikely to be fixed

Though Warner Bros. acknowledges that Batman: Arkham Origins suffers game-breaking bugs which stop some players from progressing through the game, it may never fix them. Instead, the development team is focused on the upcoming DLC story campaign. Between this and scrapping the Wii U edition of that DLC, it seems WB's commitment to the game is flagging.

Batman: Arkham Origins patch coming next week to address major bugs, WB apologizes

Batman: Arkham Origins patch coming next week to address major bugs, WB apologizes

Apparently, many players have been experiencing serious bugs in Batman: Arkham Origins. Crucially, one bug affects the ability to actually play the game at all, with "Continue" no longer showing up in the game's main menu. Another bug has the Batman falling out of the world in an endless loop, making it impossible to complete certain missions and progress through the campaign.

"We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank you all for your patience as we work to resolve the issues," the company said in a statement. And of course, a patch is in the works.

Batman: Arkham Origins review: same bat-time

Batman: Arkham Origins review: same bat-time

No matter how precise the imitation, no one has ever gained the notoriety of da Vinci or Van Gogh by replicating their styles exactly. This is the problem WB Montreal and Splash Damage have been forced to face. Batman: Arkham Origins is a perfectly competent facsimile of Rocksteady's work, but it seems the new studio had trouble finding many ways to put its own mark on a series that has already been so well-defined.
