Publisher Ubisoft has announced that it will be transitioning the hosting of many of its online services "from a third-party data center to a new facility" on February 7. During the transition, which is meant to "improve the maintenance of our infrastructure and deliver better uptime and greatly improved services for our customers," some Ubisoft titles across a number of platforms will be completely or partially unplayable.

Sony Pictures is reportedly entering final negotiations to adapt the Assassin's Creed series into a feature movie. Ubisoft had been shopping its most popular properties to various Hollywood production houses, gaining the interest of some studios including Universal. Ubisoft wants to more creative control of their properties than is usual for deals of this kind, and that was apparently a key factor for Sony leading the pack.

How do you fill up the extra space offered by Blu-ray? Just shove more games onto it, apparently. The PS3 version of Assassin's Creed Revelations will include a special system-exclusive bonus: the original Assassin's Creed game from 2007.
Altair, the protagonist from the first game, makes a reappearance in Revelations, meaning fans will be able see the beginning--and potentially, end--of his story.

Sony has once again teased some of the upcoming free and discounted content coming to PlayStation Plus subscribers in the next few weeks. Next week, Plus users get a free copy of Duael Invaders minis, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (as promised). Stardrone and Hamsterball will also be discounted, and Plus users get their new issue of Qore. Having recently announced that "a new episode of Assassin's Creed" with an "online multiplayer mode" is due out sometime between April 2010 and March 2011, publisher Ubisoft has now revealed a few more details on that and two other projects.
"The [new Assassin's Creed] will take place with the same hero, which is Ezio, and will follow-up the story that took place in Assassin's Creed 2," the company explained during a recent conference call, as reported by CVG, with CEO Yves Guillemot noting that it will also have an "offline component" and will be sold at a "full price point." In addition to word that Splinter Cell: Conviction and R.U.S.E. have been delayed, the "sales target" update Ubisoft sent out today also contained word of new games.
Specifically, "Driver, Raving Rabbids 4 and a new episode of Assassin's Creed, which will be the first in the series to have an online multiplayer mode" are planned to arrive across the publisher's next fiscal year, which runs April 1, 2010 through March 31, 2011. Read more »

Ubisoft Montreal's resident celebrity producer Jade Raymond (Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed II) is to lead Ubisoft's new Toronto-based development studio, the company said today.
Slated to open by the year's end, Ubisoft Toronto will be working on "AAA games and new intellectual properties," Raymond noted.
The studio is eventually expected to provide some 800 new jobs. Read more »

Stardock-run digital distribution platform Impulse has begun adding PC titles from publisher Ubisoft to its catalog, with more slated to arrive in the "summer" timeframe.
Assassin's Creed and Far Cry 2--both from Ubisoft Montreal--and Nival's Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East mark the three Ubisoft titles offered thus far. Impulse is currently offering 10% off each game, making them $17.99 a piece. Read more »

Sony's annual Destination PlayStation conference is underway, with confirmation that Rock Band, Assassin's Creed, LittleBigPlanet and MotorStorm are all PSP-bound.
Little is known regarding each game. Joystiq reports that Rock Band Unplugged will sport an in-game music store through the system's wireless capabilities, and adds that LittleBigPlanet PSP is being made "in conjunction" with creator Media Molecule. Read more »

Teasing that "there are many secrets hiding," publisher Ubisoft today revealed that Prince of Persia will sport several unlockable outfits, also noting that the cartoony platforming game has gone gold and entered the manufacturing process.

Work on the sequel to last year's open-world old-time murder simulator Assassin's Creed is still progressing at developer Ubistoft Montreal, according to a new interview with the studio's Prince of Persia animation director David Wilkinson.
After praising the efforts of animator Alex Drouin, Wilkinson told AusGamers that Drouin is "busy making [Assassin's Creed lead] Altair even more beautiful, adding that the last time he saw Dourin's work he "was getting Altair to swim." Read more »

GameSpot reports that Ubisoft has filed a lawsuit against Optical Experts Manufacturing, a disc replication firm based out of Charlotte, NC.
Optical Experts Manufacturing had been contracted to manufacture game discs for the PC version of Assassin's Creed, which was released this past April. According to Ubisoft, "an extraordinary breach of trust and gross negligence" led to one of the employees leaving the plant with a copy of the game some six weeks before the retail date.In taking the contract, OEM had to agree to security procedures that would've prevented such a leak. One of these procedures, Ubisoft alleges, is that no copy would ever leave OEM's premises. Read more »
