The PlayStation 3 is getting yet another exclusive compilation to let players catch up on some games they might have missed. But unlike collections like the recent Ratchet or Infamous sets, this one is a third-party series. The Assassin's Creed franchise spun off into a mini-trilogy in the middle of its trilogy, and it's being compiled onto one Blu-ray.

Update: Ubisoft's statement included below.
A nasty security hole discovered in Ubisoft's Uplay browser plugin could let naughty people run commands and programs on your PC simply with a few lines of code stuck into a webpage. "But I'm fine," you may think, "because why would I ever choose to install a uPlay plugin?" Well, Ubisoft may have kindly done it for you.

Video games and films are not generally on good terms. Hollywood has tried to crack the nut over and over, but the infamously terrible examples of adaptations continue to mount. Producers still haven't figured out what makes a successful video game to film adaptation, but we have a pretty good idea of what doesn't. And as much as I enjoy the work of Michael Fassbender, his name alone isn't enough to inspire confidence in the Assassin's Creed film project.

A sci-fi author is suing Ubisoft over the Assassin's Creed series, claiming that the open-world murder simulator rips off his novel 'Link.' John L. Beiswenger's 2002 story involves using technology to access ancestral memories, biblical and spiritual nonsense, and the odd assassin or two, which he says AC copied. He's seeking several million dollars in damages, and looking to block the release of Assassin's Creed III.

Ubisoft has made no secret that Assassin's Creed will be an annualized franchise. This year's iteration of the game is supposed to mark the end of Desmond's story, due to a 2012 apocalypse predicted within the franchise lore.
"In Assassin's Creed we set up a timeline with this whole end of the world plot of December 2012," Ubisoft's Alexandre Amacio explained. "That's fast approaching, and the story we have to tell, we obviously need to do it before we arrive at that point."

Are you ready for even more revelations from Assassin's Creed Revelations? The game that was supposed to end the story of series protagonists Altair and Ezio may have only led to more questions--especially in regards to the "modern day" character, Desmond.
Well, you won't have to wait until this year's Assassin's Creed game to continue Desmond's journey. An updated roster of achievements for Revelations has revealed plans for single-player DLC starring the assassin-in-training.

Publisher Ubisoft has announced that it will be transitioning the hosting of many of its online services "from a third-party data center to a new facility" on February 7. During the transition, which is meant to "improve the maintenance of our infrastructure and deliver better uptime and greatly improved services for our customers," some Ubisoft titles across a number of platforms will be completely or partially unplayable.

The deadly force of Assassin's Creed Revelations fans have helped unlock a new map variant in an event dubbed the "Kill Count Community Unlock Challenge." After successfully achieving a goal of "over 15 million kills" in the game's multiplayer mode across all platforms, Ubisoft has given players a new variant of the Ippokratous Night map.
We've asked Ubisoft for more details on the variant, but haven't heard back at the time of publishing.

Another downloadable content pack has apparently been outed before its time. The Mediterranean Traveler Map Pack was spotted on a retailer product page, which also dropped a release date of January 24, 2012 and a (possibly tentative) price at $9.99.

At the end of Assassin's Creed Revelations, the aging Ezio Auditore da Firenze explains the true meaning of his clan's creed. "We must be the shepherds of our own civilization," he explains. "We are the architects of our actions."
Less than two minutes later, Ezio says he was forced into his life. Whether a gaffe or intentionally bad writing, this identity conflict runs deep throughout the entire Assassin's Creed Revelations experience. It's a game that tries too hard to do too many things, becoming everything the series is known for and somehow, much less.

Ubisoft wants you to play Assassin's Creed Revelations whether you're familiar with the series or not. Sure, it may be daunting to pick up the second spin-off sequel to a game that's already a sequel. And yeah, maybe it would be odd to jump in now with a series that's notoriously dense on mythology. But you can always try to catch up. In fact, the company made a handy "Previously On" trailer to ease the transition.
