If you've yet to experience the horrors of simulated war, Arma 2 developer Bohemia Interactive is lowering the bar to entry. Today at E3 it announced Arma 2: Free, a free version of the battlefield simulator which doesn't have its every feature but certainly has enough for a jolly good time.
Arma 2: Free gives you Arma 2's full multiplayer side, complete with the mission editor, and dedicated server support. There are, of course, a few drawbacks. Arma 2: Free has lower-quality graphics, as you can judge see in the screenshots, no support for user mods which add new external content, and lacks the regular campaign. However, you'll still get to play user-made single-player content and it is, after all, free. Read more »

Though it was previously announced for release on November 24, the 'Private Military Company' DLC for ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead (or Combined Operations), has been released after a slight delay. You can grab the DLC through Steam or directly from Bohemia Interactive. Read more »

Bohemia Interactive's hardcore, cult-hit Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead will soon expand once again, with a new "Private Military Company" add-on coming late next month.
Arma 2: PMC will launch on November 24, for $9.99 (USD), adding "exotic" equipment and a new storyline to the Arma 2 universe. Read more »

The Brits will deploy to ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead's fictional setting of Takistan this August in a downloadable content pack announced today by developer Bohemia.
The 'British Armed Forces' DLC will add Her Majesty's finest to the standalone military sim expansion pack, complete with six of their weapons, two new vehicles, another two helicopters and special Brit versions of the Apache, Chinook and offroad car. Read more »

Everybody's been playing Crackdown 2 but from the sounds of it they won't be much longer. Bohemia Interactive's ArmA 2 is billed as the "ultimate military simulator" and they aren't kidding. I've been playing shooters for a very long time and recently the modern military shooter is in demand. I had dabbled with Operation Flashpoint back in the day, but my computer was never beefy enough to run it well. Now, equipped with a decent machine and a new copy of ArmA 2: Combined Operations, I venture into the brutal, unforgiving world of realistic military combat. Read more »

A launch-day patch accompanied the release of Bohemia's standalone expansion ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead yesterday, a 142MB download over on FileShack.
Unlike recent ARMA 2 patches, Operation Arrowhead patch 1.52 is not compatible with the Steam release, which is updated automatically. The following fixes and tweaks are deployed, plus ARMA 2 patch 1.07 will be automatically installed if needed. Read more »

A new ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead trailer introduces the army native to the standalone expansion pack's fictional setting of Takistan and reveals its retro arsenal.
"The Takistani Army is equipped with a mixture of Cold-War-era equipment of both Eastern and Western bloc origin, supplied during the interregnum of 1988-91," says developer Bohemia Interactive, including FN FALs and AKS-74s plus T-34, T-55 and T-72 tanks, not forgetting Mi-24D helicopter gunships and SS-1c Scud-B missiles.
