APB creator David Jones joins APB Reloaded

APB creator and Grand Theft Auto designer David Jones has been reunited with his malformed baby, signing up with Reload Productions to work on the free-to-play APB Reloaded.

"This game was my passion back when I was developing it with Realtime Worlds, and I'm extremely excited to be able to participate in fulfilling the long term vision for the title," Jones said in the announcement. "After seeing what the team has done with the game thus far, I'm certain that APB Reloaded will become the title that truly breaks new ground for online game experiences, especially with transition to a free to play model." Cyberpunk fans waiting cautiously for Deus Ex: Human Revolution will have to wait a little longer, as publisher Square Enix today told investors that it's been delayed.

Eidos Montreal's sequel to Ion Storm's beloved RPG was due to launch in the current fiscal year--which ends on March 31, 2011--but has been pushed into somewhere in the next fiscal year, which runs April 2011 to March 2012, to allow for "further polish." Read more »

APB Property Acquired by GamersFirst; Relaunching As Free-to-Play in First Half of 2011

It appears that, for the most part, the rumors were true: Today, Reloaded Productions Inc., a whollyowned subsidiary of publisher GamersFirst, announced it has acquired "all the Intellectual Property Rights" to RealTime Worlds' cops versus criminals MMORPG, APB: All Points Bulletin.

According to the press release announcing the acquisition, GamersFirst revealed it plans to re-launch the franchise in "the first half of 2011" as APB: Reloaded--a free-to-play, Unreal Engine 3-powered title, developed by Reloaded Productions Inc. Read more »

Rumour: APB Bought for $2.4 Million by K2 Network

While rumours have been swirling about APB being bought by one company or another since developer Realtime Worlds folded, GamesIndustry.biz is confident in its sources saying that the cops vs. robbers MMORPG has been bought by K2 Network, owner of the free-to-play MMO publisher GamersFirst.

The site's sources claim that K2 has paid around £1.5 million (roughly $2.4 million US) for APB and that it could be back up and running before the end of the year. Supposedly, the purchase will be officially announced in the coming week. Read more »

Rumor: Buyer Found for Defunct APB

Though Realtime Worlds has been gutted and has been in bankruptcy administration, recent "patch" notes (via Massively) for its shuttered game APB declared:

"It's looking like there might be light at the end of the tunnel for APB. The end of the administration process is apparently close and there appears to be a buyer for the game." Read more »

No Refunds for APB Purchasers; EA Offering Some Customers Coupons or Free Games

Now that APB has shut down following the collapse of Realtime Worlds, customers that purchased the game or additional playtime and items might feel justified in seeking a refund.

The firm administrating the shut down of Realtime Worlds says (via Eurogamer), "customers should revert to the entity from which they bought the game in respect of their entitlement to any refund." Steam will not be offering any refunds, explaining, "as with most software products, we do not offer refunds or exchanges for purchases made online as outlined in the software license." Read more »

APB Shutting Down

Hugely troubled Scottish developer Realtime Worlds has announced that its cops vs. robbers MMO APB is shutting down, less than three months after it launched.

"Today we are sad to announce that despite everyone's best efforts to keep the service running, APB is coming to a close," community officer Ben Bateman wrote on the official APB site, urging that "The servers are still up, so join the party and say goodbye!" Read more »
