Anarchy Reigns review: flair for fighting

Anarchy Reigns review: flair for fighting

There's been an air of anticipation for Anarchy Reigns, understandable given its baffling delays here in North America. Now that it has finally arrived, Platinum's 3D brawler thoroughly scratches the itch for off-the-wall mayhem, even if some of its ambitious multiplayer efforts fall a bit short.

Anarchy Reigns dated for January 2013

Anarchy Reigns dated for January 2013

Though Sega released Anarchy Reigns in Japan in July, the publisher has really dragged its heels with the western release. Even developer Platinum Games was surprised when Sega delayed its multiplayer beat 'em up into the first quarter of 2013, but at least we now have a solid release date: January 8, 2013 in North America.

Platinum 'in the dark' about Anarchy Reigns delay

Platinum 'in the dark' about Anarchy Reigns delay

Anarchy Reigns was unceremoniously pushed into 2013 yesterday. A previous delay was out of developer Platinum Games' hands, as Sega looked for an ideal release target. This time, apparently, Sega didn't even tell Platinum about the new date.

Anarchy Reigns coming out in 2013

Anarchy Reigns coming out in 2013

Platinum Games' Anarchy Reigns was oddly absent from Sega's booth at E3 this year. Odd, considering the game is done. "It is still coming out the first week of July in Japan, but in the west Sega is looking for the best time to put it out," Platinum's Jean Pierre Kellams previously said.

Well, Sega apparently has figured out the "best time" to release the upcoming brawler. Fans can now expect it in Q1 2013--alongside the dozens of other high-profile games slated for that quarter.

Bayonetta cameos in Anarchy Reigns

Bayonetta cameos in Anarchy Reigns

All signs we've seen from Platinum Games' Anarchy Reigns indicate that it's a big ol' ball of crazy. So it makes a strange kind of insular sense that the game would include a cameo from Platinum's last prominent example of gonzo game design: Bayonetta. The sexy-librarian witch has been outed for an appearance in the game.

Anarchy Reigns delayed to July to make game 'larger'

Platinum Games' upcoming game, Anarchy Reigns, has been mysteriously delayed. The developer has been the center of attention for the past few days, ever since it was revealed that it was working on Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

Anarchy Reigns, an online brawler that appears to be a spiritual successor to God Hand, was originally scheduled for release in January. It has now been delayed to July 3rd.
