Valve has pushed an update to its free mod-turned-standalone title Alien Swarm, which adds AI director support in the new Onslaught mode and additional difficulty settings.
"We've added 'Onslaught' mode, which introduces an AI Director that dynamically generates swarms of aliens based on several factors, such as the squad's stress level," explains Valve. "Onslaught works with any difficulty setting and ensures no mission plays the same way twice." Read more »

Alien Swarm, a free game and SDK from Valve and the team that created the original Unreal Tournament 2K4 mod, has now been released via Steam.
The game supports four player co-op play along with 64 new Steam achievements, Steam Cloud support, and an updated Source SDK for mod-makers to dig in to. Though the Source engine has been ported to the Mac, Alien Swarm is currently only available for the PC. It is possible that it will be released for the Mac at a later date. Read more »

Valve has announced a new, free game for PC gamers -- Alien Swarm -- which will be released on July 19 through Steam. Alien Swarm is described as a "game and Source SDK release from a group of talented designers at Valve who were hired from the Mod community."
The original Alien Swarm was an Unreal Tournament 2004 modification made by Black Cat Games. The same team was working on a Source version of their game, planned as a full retail release. Read more »
