Aion will be taking the increasingly popular step of switching to a free-to-play model. Developer NCSoft announced that the new pricing structure will come alongside the game's 3.0 update this Spring, which will also bring an increased level cap, housing, mounts, new zones and instances. This announcement comes two months after the game was announced as F2P in Europe.

While struggling MMORPGs used to simply shut down when subscriber numbers dropped, the rise of the free-to-play model has seen many hold on to eek out a living. Add NCSoft's Aion to that list, as the publisher announced today it'll switch in February 2012--but, for now, only in Europe.

Publisher NCSoft has released a new app for iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) for its MMO, Aion. The application, called 'Aion Exchange' gives players external access to Aion's in-game economy.
The Aion Exchange continues a trend of external iOS applications like the previously announced app in development for Guild Wars 2, and Blizzard's recent Auction House for World of Warcraft. Read more »

Riot Games' League of Legends was the star of the first Games Developers Choice Online Awards last night, coming away with five of the nine awards, which were established to reward "innovation and excellence in the art of making online games."
LoL scooped awards in categories from 'Best Online Game Design' to 'Best Online Technology.' Other winners included EVE Online for 'Best Live Game,' MMO juggernaut World of Warcraft for its customer service and NCSoft's Aion for sound. Read more »

'Assault on Balauera,' a hefty free expansion for NCSoft's MMO Aion has launched, alongside a couple of nifty trailers showing off (and explaining) some of the new features and content. The patch will update Aion from version 1.9.0.3 to v2.0.0.2.
The first trailer is an orchestral mash-up of new locations, combat, and creatures, whereas the second trailer has members of the development team explaining the contents of the expansion in more detail. Read more »

NCSoft has released a new Aion trailer titled 'Vision' showing many features not currently in the PC MMORPG, with only a florid cryptic description for explanation.
"As the Daevas dream, they see Atreia's future," the description reads. "The future of Aion--revealed! Your dreams your imagination becomes reality. With innovation Aion will make your imagination into reality. Aion's future will be your dreams made real." Read more »

NCsoft's fantasy MMO Aion was the biggest PC seller at retail in September, according to NPD's new data for the month. EA Maxis' The Sims 3 and Cryptic's superhero MMO Champions Online rounded out the top three.
On the order of more recent sales data, Left 4 Dead 2 captured the top spot on the Steam sales list last week, edging out Gearbox's just-released Borderlands and BioWare's upcoming RPG Dragon Age: Origins. Check out both charts below. Read more »

On the eve of Aion's North American launch, NCsoft is promising that early adopters of the fantasy MMO will not be disappointed by its future support.
"There will be at least one major update a year," said NCsoft brand manager Christian-Peter Heimbach to VG247.

Sega has released a demo for the PC version of Sega Rally Revo, which includes one track and one car, the Volkswagen Golf GTI. If you're in Europe and already picked up the retail version of the game, there is a patch available with a number of bug fixes and game improvements. Sega Rally Revo ships to stores October 9 for PC, PlayStation 3, PSP and Xbox 360.

Sega today released new screenshots and a trailer for Sega Rally Revo, Sega Racing Studio's racing game sequel due out on PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 as well as PSP later this year. The trailer is the first of six to highlight the game's various environments, with this one focusing on the tropical backdrop.

Sega has issued a new set of Sega Rally Revo screenshots, showing the Alpine and Tropical race locations. There are six screenshots from the Xbox 360 version, and eleven screenshots from the PlayStation 3 version. Sega Rally Revo will be released this fall on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PSP.
