Ace Combat: Assault Horizon finally coming to PC

It's been more than a year since Ace Combat: Assault Horizon came out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and fans hoping to test their aerial dogfighting skills on PC only got radio silence from publisher Namco Bandai. But now the PC version finally is on the radar.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon demo coming tomorrow

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon demo coming tomorrow

I called Ace Combat: Assault Horizon "absolutely thrilling" at E3--but I had trouble coming to grips with some of its controls. Tomorrow, you'll be able to take a test drive for yourself with a downloadable demo on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.

The demo will be available on PS3 and Xbox 360 on September 13 and includes two missions from the single player campaign.

E3 2011: Ace Combat Assault Horizon

E3 2011: Ace Combat Assault Horizon

QUICKTAKE: I have never played an Ace Combat game. But Namco Bandai's latest, Assault Horizon, makes me wish I had. Project Aces' newest addition to the franchise adds a "Close-Range Assault" system that lets you lock on to a target and zoom in to the cockpit for a vertigo-inducing dog-fighting experience. It was explosive and absolutely thrilling, especially for a newcomer like me. Helicopter battles, on the other hand, proved to be very difficult.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon coming October 11

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon coming October 11

Namco Bandai announced a set of release dates today for Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, its refresh of the action flight franchise. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 title will hit North America on October 11, and then hop the pond to release in Europe on October 14.

The game is being written by Jim DeFelice, a New York Times bestselling military author who isn't Tom Clancy. You'll be taking the helm of super-sonic jets, attack helicopters, and the usual array of other slick aircraft. You'll also visit locales like Russia and Dubai, presumably too fast to admire the insane architecture. Read more »

Kinect Support Conjured up for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Co-op Challenges

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will boast a co-op challenge mode with Kinect support for casting spells on Xbox 360, EA revealed during its Gamescom 2010 press conference.

The live Kinect demonstration saw James and Oliver Phelps--the twins who portray The Weasley Twins in the magical movie series--waving their arms forth to cast offensive spells or holding their hands out to conjure a defensive shield as they zapped enemy wizards in the challenge. Challenge performance is tracked and uploaded to Xbox Live for comparison, EA explained. Read more »
