So something stuck with me and I am curious what everyone thinks.

When Jeff was talking Ni No Kuni and mentioned that the story in an of itself was good enough to be a film it got me thinking. Is it possible / right to judge a video games story without taking into account the entire experience including the game bits? Does it matter how good the story is removed from the game because that is a case that will never happen?
