Andy's talk about Call Of Duty Multiplayer reminded me of something I have been thinking for a long.
Currently, to my knowledge, gamer are classified into 3 categories Casual, Average, and Hardcore. I think there should be a 4th category for competitive.
Basically the way I see them breaking down is....
Casual: Plays 1-3 games a year, and spends at most 2 hours a week playing them.
Average: Loves gaming, and usually wants to be a hardcore or competitive gamer, but doesn't have the time or money.
n{Hardcore}n: Makes up most of the gaming community. Loves to play a vast varieties of games and tries to play every major release of the year. Also tries to stay up to date on current news involving the game industry.
Competitive: The complete opposite of casual gamers. Play 1-3 games a year and spends 60+ hrs a week playing only those games.
The main reason I feel competitive gamers should not be considered hardcore gamers, is I can't tell you the number of times I have talked to someone who only plays MW or even only plays WoW, and I can relate to them to a point obviously, but it is basically like talking to a hardcore sports fan. If you try to talk to them about any other game than what they like, they are extremely narrow minded.
