I don't really think it's 'fair' for Garnett to dismiss Gears of War 3 because he "doesn't need another online shooter" two weeks after he defended a game (I think Resistance 3?) for having perks and unlocks.

Gears has a ton of unique game play mechanics that set it apart from almost any other shooter out there. I personally don't really enjoy those mechanics, at least so far, and it doesn't sound like Garnett or anyone on the show does either....but that doesn't mean it should in any way be implied that it's just another shooter. It's much more unique than say Homefront or how Resistance 3 sounds like it's going to turn out.

It also sounds like Garnett is excited for Brink, which is an online shooter. Wouldn't it be more accurate to say "I don't have time to play an online shooter I don't enjoy that much." Which, I guess was his point, but I felt like he was implying Gears online is very generic....which is not the case.
