I didn't play AC2 so I can't comment on its winning.

However, I will say that I thought Red Dead Redemption had some of the best writing I have ever experienced in a video game. For me at least, like a good film or TV show, it provoked critical thought on a range of different issues. Too bad it wasn't a contender here.
