Ok, so i've got it all figured out. The game looks good on it's own merit. In fact, if they hadn't slapped the X-COM name on the title, it probably would've been fine. Coulda called it Alien Apocalypse or something equally B-rated sounding.
I digress: Ok, so they have this pretty ok looking game and idea, but they're like "Fudge! no one's going to give a crap about this! We gotta do something..." and this guy - we'll call him Bob for now - is like "I miss X-COM." and this other guy who was talking at first - we'll call him Fred - is like "THAT'S IT! We have this X-COM name, these things are 'extraterrestrial', we'll just slap X-COM on there!" and Bob was like "But this shit is nothing like X-COM! Screw you!" and then the CEO fires Bob, but Fred's like "Wait! That's how all the fans of the X-COM name are going to react! And they'll voice their opinions on the webberblags! And all the people who didn't know about X-COM are going to be interested because obviously we're in the wrong for using the name like this. So people will argue about this constantly because some will say something like 'Games is art' and 'Trolling is a art'. Some will be interested to know, and will probably buy the old games to see. But they'll argue. And people will remember the game as long as they argue!"
They're using us guys. THEY KNOW WHAT WE'RE THINKING! THEY'RE IN OUR HEADS! THEY KNOW HOW TO TURN US AGAINST OURSELVES AND USE US! WERE'S MY TINFOIL HAT!!!
