Judged as either a game or a movie, Heavy Rain is piss poor. The story is hackneyed and filled with plot holes. The gameplay is as superficial as you could make it. The only way it could succeed therefore was making something where the sum was greater than the parts. A reaction between two crude elements that forms an alloy of value. But it doesn't. The whole game is a lump of unidentifiable blandness. An eight hour engagement of my apathy that left me feeling like a coma patient. To its credit, it is immersive, but then so is sleep, and both have a lot in common.
