Obviously they aren't doing this because it's a good idea. Maybe they fired all the employees who have good ideas (they are probably the more expensive ones...)

More likely is that they're getting paid a lot of money by Big Stage, the company that makes the face mapping product, to put this in the game so that Big Stage can go to other game companies and say "Look! This mass-market MMO uses our technology! Please license us!"
