Regardless of what this game is, it will not be anything at all like Doom 1 or Doom 2 in regard to game play.
The fact alone that it is going to be multi-platform negates their ability to design the game in a way that mimics the movement speed from the original Doom games or any of the good Quake games. When it comes right down to it, removing that key element makes it impossible for them to recapture the glory of the old games. The action was fueled by the speed. That's what Serious Sam got right. That is what Painkiller got right. While I suppose Id could get it right, I doubt any of their design decisions will be focused on such aspects.
I know I'm not the first person to ever mention these points, but I suppose they should be repeated for anyone who is getting their hopes up that the next Doom game will be in some way a return to previous glory days. It won't be. It may be a great game in itself, but it won't be what anyone over the age of 22 - 25 wants it to be.
