I disagree with some of his points. Some of my favorite quests were "gimmick" quests. They were new, different, memorable, and broke up the monotony of "kill x monsters". The basic guide for quests should simply be "don't be repetitive" and "don't be frustrating". If you get those two down you have a decent quest.
I would like to see MMOs that did away with these grind quests though. It would be nice to see them focus more on instanced dungeon crawling with a team that had good scripted events that progressed a story.
