Well, love them or hate them, as long as microtransactions don't involve anything that materially enhances a character's abilities, who cares? If you blow an extra $5/month to give your character a sweet polka-dotted horsie instead of a boring brown one, I don't think it's going to ruin your life any more than playing 40 hours of WoW a week already did.
On the other hand, Warhammer has limited customization with mountable trophies and items that can be attached to armor, and that's free. Seems like customization is becoming more feasible, and now the discussion simply turns to whether it's to be presented as an integral feature that we should expect of the 'state of the art', or if it's something that can be monetized.
