Actually that isn't what Sony stated. Sony stated they were in talks with MS concerning Bluray support. Any idiot with a 5th grade edumacation knows this is concerning Bluray support under Vista which has had nothing official from MS to date.

The origonal article in the FT which has since been altered showed a clear delineation between what Sony said and where out of the blue (pun intended) the writer, not MS or Sony made the deduction of "If MS were to produce a Xbox 360 with an internal bluray drive..." Suddenly this assumption became the truth of the talks. MS was very quick to make an announcement denying any 360 Bluray support was on the table. But it was too late and people were already swallowing up the story hook, line, and sinker all because they did not take the time to read the story.

Now the article has been completely rewritten and even headlines with MS in talks for Bluray in the 360. I am laughing. This is right up there with the HD DVD internal drive that Stuff was swearing was going to be announced at CES. The FT article was based on hearsay and the writer did not personally speak to MS or Sony. Of course when people are hoping so bad it doesn't take much to get them on the happy wagon. Has anyone looked at buying an external BR drive and seen the cost? Good luck with that.

He said Microsoft will work with the Blu-ray next-generation DVD format in some form following the demise of Toshiba's HD-DVD, which Microsoft previously supported. "We've already been working on, for example, in Windows, device driver support for Blu-ray drives and the like, and I think the world moves on. Toshiba has moved on. We've moved on, and we'll support Blu-ray in ways that make sense."

Nothing about the 360 there. With an HD DVD attach rate of 5% it isn't likely.

The Financial Times in a Thursday article cited Sony Electronics US president Stan Glasgow, who reportedly said during a media dinner that Microsoft and Sony are discussing Blu-ray for Xbox 360.

But a Microsoft rep said in a phone interview with Next-Gen that that is "not at all" the case, and Microsoft will "remain focused on the games" for the console, not its movie playback capabilities.

"There are no plans to introduce Blu-ray," said the spokesperson.

"In response to Stan Glasgow’s statement that Blu-ray is a possibility for Xbox 360, we have made no such announcement," the rep added in an e-mail. "Games are what are driving consumers to purchase game consoles and we remain focused on providing the largest library of blockbuster games available."
