If Silicon Knights broke the engine - and its entirely possible because it wouldn't be the first time a developer licensed technology then proceeded to break it and render it inoperable - then they share the burden of responsibility for their troubles.

But this is such a highly political issue with such highly complex technical aspects, it is basically impossible for a layman to make decent judgements.
