Governor Henry Signs Bill Regulating Violent Videogames
June 09, 2006
Oklahoma City — Gov. Brad Henry signed legislation today to restrict the sale of ultra-violent video games to children.
“The violence in videogames has grown to epic proportions,” the Governor said.
“Some video games glorify violence to a degree seldom seen in even the bloodiest movies. While parents have the ultimate responsibility for what their children do and see, this legislation is another tool to ensure that our young people are not saturated in violence. This gives parents the power to more closely regulate which games their children play.”
House Bill 3004, which was authored by state Rep. Fred Morgan (D-Oklahoma City) and Sen. Glenn Coffee (R-Oklahoma City), will prohibit selling to minors videogames that feature inappropriate and gratuitous violence.
