SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT EXECUTIVE PHIL HARRISON TO KEYNOTE 2006 GAME DEVELOPERS CONFERENCE, FOCUSING ON OPPORTUNITIES PRESENTED BY HIGHLY ANTICIPATED PLAYSTATION 3SAN FRANCISCO-February 16, 2006- Phil Harrison, President, Worldwide Studios, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), will contribute to the "What's Next" theme with a keynote focused on the PLAYSTATION 3, during the 2006 Game Developers Conference (GDC). GDC, the world's largest event exclusively devoted to game creation, will take place at the San Jose Convention Center Monday through Friday, March 20-24, 2006.
Harrison's keynote, titled "PLAYSTATION 3: Beyond the Box," will highlight the new creative, technical and business opportunities presented by the PLAYSTATION 3. He will share with the thousands of game makers at the conference, a detailed outline of SCE's plans for the upcoming next-generation platform and how the newest technology will encourage developers to think "beyond the box" to attract a broader consumer base.
"Mr. Harrison's talk comes at the perfect time for the eager developer audience at the GDC," Jamil Moledina, director, Game Developers Conference, said. "His discussion will answer many questions developers have for Sony at this stage before the impending PS3 launch."
Harrison made an appearance last fall at the 2005 Game Developers Conference Europe where he spoke about the next-generation of games in a casual interview-style keynote with GDC director Jamil Moledina. At the time, the SCE executive focused on the PlayStation Portable just launching in the U.K. and gave developers a preview of the benefits they could expect from the PlayStation 3.
In September 2005, Sony Computer Entertainment merged its regional product development operations into a single global organization, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios. Harrison was appointed president of the newly-formed division, and is now responsible for establishing global strategy and management operations for 13 studios spanning five countries.
Harrison's keynote, "PLAYSTATION 3: Beyond the Box," is scheduled for Wednesday, March 22 from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.
The GDC is the largest and most important professional development event for the games industry. The conference will feature more than 300 lectures and workshops designed to provide inspiration and build skills. The annual event offers an independent forum for developers from around the world to set the agenda for the next stage of interactive tools.
The GDC will take place March 20-24 at the San Jose Convention Center. To secure early rate pricing, be sure to register by February 15. Learn more at www.gdconf.com.
