Prey Is Out Tomorrow, But Why Is There No PC Demo?

Apparently Steam users can return the game within two hours and get their money back, so that is like a demo. Wait, what?

Prey is finally out tomorrow, and some people have already been lucky enough to play some of it because of a console demo out last week. Why no love for PC players? Apparently it has something to do with Steam's return policy.

"PC has Steam," Arkane Studios game director Raphael Colantonio told AusGamers. "Steam players can just return the game [before they play] two hours so it's like a demo already."

While that sounds a bit off the wall, Colantonio said that wasn't the only reason. "It's just a resource assignment thing. We couldn't do a demo on both the console and on the PC, we had to choose."

He also disputed the idea that the game was developed for consoles first and that the PC version was not a port. "First of all, it's not like we first do the game on console and then in the end we suddenly port the game to PC. It starts on PC. That's how game development works."

The good news is that the PC specs for the game aren't too bad. And when you finally do get the game, a day 1 patch will fix numerous issues before you even play it. So you should be able to enjoy this futuristic reskinning of Dishonored 2 where the part of Morgan Yu is played by Emily Kaldwin.

I appreciate that level of candor. I forget what game it was but there was some game years back where I read an review complaining about performance (and this was a game no one really reported issues on) and they said "worse, the PC got a port of the Xbox 360 version" and I wanted to tear all of my eyebrows out. Nothing like a reviewer who knows nothing about fame development and still struts like a know it all anyway.

"all" of your eyebrows? Not 'both'? <backs away slowly>
