Splatoon 2 Will Feature New Modes, Mechanics, and More

Nintendo inked us with details during today's livestream.

The ink is almost dry on Splatoon 2, and today's Nintendo Direct event inked in more information on what the sequel holds in store when the game arrives on July 21.

It's an unwritten rule that every multiplayer game needs a Horde mode. Splatoon 2 will get in on the co-op fun by adding Salmon Run, a mode where teams of four players battle waves of enemies. Amid that madness, players will run around collecting salmon eggs. I'm not sure why, but if you need to round them up they're probably important.

Three amiibos will launch alongside Splatoon 2: Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy, and Inkling Squid. All three figures let you save outfits and suit up in your loadout when you play on a friend's Switch. Amiibos also store your Splatoon 2 options and weapons.

Splatoon 2 and themed amiibos drop on July 21.
