Computer Biz Stuff
by Steve Gibson, Oct 18, 2000 2:32pm PDTEh what the hell, we'll just call this um... afternoon business stuff as we all know the majority of readers here are entrepreneurs keeping an eye on the computing businesss community. Here's some of the recent stuff going down:
- MP3.com has reached a tentative pact with publishers. MP3.com coughs up $30million, and they get to live, for now. - Microsoft is pushing back Whistler a bit more it seems, the latest estimates going into 2002. - Dont call it a comeback! They've been here for years! Intel stock is finally making a comeback. - Microsoft and AOL are still getting rich, sorry guys. It looks like the Cube thing for Apple isnt doing so well though.

His name on there is "Acolyte," and he's a real twat.
It's the second time I've seen him doing it... if anyone knows any dirty tricks, like what he did to us to make us BSOD from halflife...

I've got a test tomorrow in TCP/IP. Everything is dandy, except for the whole subnet masking thing. Does anybody have a good online resource for this?
Thanks.

Preview of Emperor: Battle for Dune.
Interesting read... but, the writer seems to be confused.
"But as popular as the game (C&C) was (and continues to be), few know that it was Westwood's Dune II that laid the groundwork for Command & Conquer."
So Dune2 is relatively unknown... ok.. but a couple lines down we get this:
"Westwood succeeded (in making Dune2), and the result was the game widely acknowledged as the pioneer of the real-time strategy genre as we know it today."
Wait.. so, which is it? Is Dune2 the relatively unknown spiritual predecessor to C&C, or is Dune2 the "widely acknowledged" pioneer of the rts genre? Geez, does nobody proof-read these articles?

What is the technical term for "how long it takes for an image to fade out (i.e. a white box into black)"?
Like, for example, it takes a graphing calculator a while

8)If you could choose one CS weapon to take on a desert island which would you choose?
hmm.. that's a tough one. My first choice would be the MP5/N.. My second choice would the SG-552 Commando since I love how that gun looks.

That's like buying a car because of what color it is or something about the interior.
What the hell is "having a gun that looks good" going to do for you on a desert island!?!

Now... What is the reason that the slot 1 board supports the P3 and the socket 370 board does not even though it is newer then the "older" BH6?

I hate rebooting and I'm betting that it does
Just like what happened to Steve at the HardOCP:

Maybe you guys will have better luck than I have. . . . but every time I try going to this page, my system reboots..WTF."

I put up with 7 for far to long last time. When I launch 6.4, it pops up almost instantly. When I was using 7, I had the "classic" skin enabled so it looked like 6.4, but it still took forever* to load.
*forever = ~5 seconds if even that. Might have been 4 or 3. 1 - 2 is all I'll stand for something like that.
