Call of Duty: WWII Could Really Be the Name of the Next Installment

It is likely the next in the wave of overly simplistic titles, with this one going back to the roots of the original games.

In a move that may follow the simple, yet moronically, named Battlefield 1 in lack of title creativity, it appears that leaked images for the next Call of Duty may indeed peg the name as Call of Duty: WWII.

The Family Video Gamers received some images from a source that included a logo and box art. The info was then turned into a video, seen below. Eurogamer apparently has confirmed through its own sources that the images and title are indeed authentic. While the title is overly simplistic it does reinforce the promise of Activision that its next CoD would go "back to its roots." The last CoD game set in a World War was Call of Duty: World at War in 2008.

The title is being developed by Sledgehammer Games and is slated for release this year. The franchise rotates between three developers, with Treyarch and Infinity Ward being the other two. The latest installment in the series, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, did not "resonate" with fans, Activision said, prompting the return to what worked in the past.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is still pushing out DLC for the game, having released Sabotage last month.
