ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove, the fourth title in the series, will be coming to Nintendo Switch sometime this year. While the Switch build itself wasn't available for play at PAX East, those who attended were able to play another early version of ToeJam & Earl. First impressions state Back in the Groove returns to the series roots in an adventure that fans of the original 1991 title will love.

Back in the Groove features some throwbacks to the original but includes a boost of content. You'll be able to play as nine different characters in ToeJam & Earl, including new and retro ToeJam and Earl. There are also a plethora of minigames. The Hyperfunk Zone minigame features a 2D endless runner that gives you items as long as you can stay inside and a Beat Battle minigame that plays out like Guitar Hero.

There will be 25 levels in Back in the Groove and will feature an intro mode for beginners and a hard mode for ToeJam & Earl series veterans. No release date has been set for ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove, but according to Lead Artist Nathan Shorts you should be able to get your funk on when the game releases for Linux, Mac, PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One sometime this year.
