Modojo Rewind: Switches And Zeldas And Phones, Oh My!

Your weekly dose of portable and mobile news from your friends at Modojo.

Merry Switchmas, Shack readers! Nintendo's hot new hybrid device is finally out, and if you're reading this then we thank you for pulling yourself away from Breath of the Wild long enough to see what's going on over at Modojo. Don't worry, this week is a pretty short one, as we've been busy preparing for Zelda and the Switch ourselves. Let's jump right into it with Nintendo news, since that's all anyone's thinking about right now anyway!

Switch

Switch It Up, Drop It Down

This is a pretty big day for Nintendo, as not only does the Switch finally launch, so too does the long-awaited Breath of the Wild, which is playable on the Wii U as well. Resident wordsmith Kevin Tucker wrote a couple of pieces on where the Switch fits in the current market and how Sony and Microsoft will need to watch their backs. We've also covered a whole lot of basic Switch info, from what launch titles are available to how long you can expect the battery to last.

I myself wrote up a bit of a Zelda lore primer for those looking to get into the series with Breath of the Wild who'd like to know about the history of the world and characters. You can also read about how its framerate fares on the Switch, as well as how to keep Link warm or upgrade your hearts and stamina. Also, Capcom finally revealed a May 26 release for Ultra Street Fighter II. If you haven't made the jump to a Switch yet, then why not read about the new 3DS farm-life game, Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns. We've even got a couple of guides to help cover shop schedules and the like.

New Nokia 3310

The Brick Returns

Not much mobile gaming news to cover outside of Roller Coaster Tycoon Touch finally releasing globally and Pokemon Go hitting 650 million downloads, but there's plenty of tech news. Google took a big step towards replacing the tired old SMS messaging on Android with RCS. Samsung is set to finally reveal the S8 at the end of the month, and their new Gear VR will come with a controller powered by Oculus.

In other VR news, Pico Interactive is allowing developers to sign up for Pico Neo CV software development kits, and Rayman's crazy rabbids are set to make their VR debut with Virtual Rabbids: The Big Plan exclusively for Daydream. Oh, and the Nokia 3310 has been revived, no big deal.

That's all we've got for you this week, dear readers. Here's hoping you'll be spending the weekend trekking across the gorgeous, open new iteration of Hyrule. And hey, if that's not your bag, then have fun anyway. Maybe do some farming or go hunt robot dinosaurs.

Modojo is your home base for mobile and portable gaming and tech news. You wanna read about the Switch or 3DS? Come on down. How about app store titles? We've got you covered. Interested in mobile VR or phones themselves? We write about 'em. Hell, if Sony were so bold as to release a Vita game, we'd cover that too.
