There will now be a Standard version of the game that will not require a headset.

Here They Lie was a survival horror game released last year for PlayStation VR that did a rather good job of scaring the heck out of players. Unfortunately, if you didn't have the headset, you couldn't play the game. Developer Tangentlemen decided to remedy that.

Thanks to a new update, Here They Lie now has a Standard version for PlayStation 4 and PS4 Pro, according to co-Creative Director Cory Davis. If players already have the VR version of the game, they will automatically get the standard version in the patch. Future players will get both versions of the game.

The PS4 Pro patch will add "better shadows, post-processing effects, dynamic flashlight shadows, and ambient occlusion," he said. And its all playable in 4K resolution, provided you have a 4K compatible display.

As for the rest of the changes, Davis said there is now "a controller configuration screen, the highly requested Chapter Select screen, subtitles (only for the Standard version), and a slew of visual upgrades - like improved anti-aliasing and lighting across the board."

Finally, for the original VR adopters, "We’ve improved head tracking globally for a smoother, more accurate, and more immersive experience," he said. "Additionally, we’ve reworked the overall texture streaming to improve the sharpness of the visuals throughout the world. Some additional tutorial screens have been added to help you smoothly immerse yourself in VR, and you’ll be able to switch between the VR and Standard (non VR) version of Here They Lie seamlessly."

If you haven't tried the game, here's what you might have missed.
