Konami has announced that a new Bomberman game will be coming to Japan's arcades for the first time in twenty years. However, it's not a Bomberman per se. Instead, the game will feature a whole new character named Bombergirl. According to the official website, Bombergirl will feature the same block-destroying gameplay as before, and arcades will be able to link multiple Bombergirl cabinets together for 4v4 gameplay.

For those that happen to be in Japan, Bombergirl will be playable at the Japan Amusement Expo 2017 in Chiba, Japan February 10-12. Four new characters will be appearing in Bombergirl: Bombergirl herself, Blocker, Attacker, and Shooter. I assume that all these characters are names for what they do best.

Bombergirl also seems to have destructible outfits ala Senran Kagura in addition to having block-breaking Bomberman-style gameplay, How that will fly if the game gets a U.S. release is anyone's guess. Right now Konami Amusement hasn't revealed a release date for Bombergirl in Japan or the West, but things are looking up for Hudson Soft's derelict franchise. If you want a Bomberman to fix soon, you can take a look at Super Bomberman R which is coming to the Nintendo Switch in March.
