ZeniMax has Acquired Escalation Studios

ZeniMax Media has acquired the studio that helped make id Software's masterpiece, Doom.

ZeniMax Media has acquired Escalation Studios. Escalation Studios was one of the third-party developers that helped id Software in the development of Doom, our 2016 game of the year.

Escalation Studios continues to work on multiple projects throughout the ZeniMax Media family, and the acquisition seems amicable on both sides of the fence.

VP of Development at Bethesda Todd Vaugh stated, “We have continually been impressed with the team at Escalation that Tom and Marc have assembled. Their commitment to quality and innovation has made significant contributions to the projects we’ve worked on together, and we’re excited to have them join ZeniMax."

Tom Mustaine, Co-Managing Director of Escalation Studios, had this to say about the acquisition: "We can't wait to see what the studio is capable of with the support of such a great company as ZeniMax."

There's no word yet as to whether the acquisition will affect any positions at Escalation Studios. Which, and how many, projects Escalation is currently working on is also up in the air.

Thought Tom Mustaine sounded familiar so I looked him up again. Worked at Ritual on Sin, Counterstrike Condition Zero, some other games. Looks like Escalation helped with snapmap on Doom recently.

Too bad Richard "Level Lord" Grey isn't doing maps any more.

more importantly he worked on maps for Duke Nukem3D and the first expansion pack for Quake1.

And he is a shacker! I can't remember his shack name, but he has been here before. I've met him a few times through my friends Benson and Squirrel. Such an awesome guy and so happy for him and the rest of the team!

Is Squirrel still doing games? I lost track of him a few years ago. I know he setup a new shop after MumboJumbo, but lost track after that.

he was doing contract stuff but now focused on being a Professor at the gaming school at SMU. he is on FB and Twitter - easy to find. Squirrel and I grew up in the same town, and became part of a core group that gamed once he came home from college. Benson comes from that group as well. We used to make Doom levels at Denny's using my first generation laptop :) We were all in each other's weddings ... miss those guys!
