Borderlands 3 was a possibility for Nintendo Switch, until it wasn't

Nebulous Twitter post from Randy Pitchford hints at halted negotiations.

Nintendo Switch doesn't have too many third party titles planned for it when it launches on March 3. According to Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford, Nintendo could have had Borderlands 3 for the console-handheld hybrid.

When a fan asked Pichford on Twitter about the game as a possibility for Switch, he replied "I do not see that as happening. We were talking to Nintendo, but that stopped for some reason. They have other priorities." He didn't go into more details, but Borderlands 3 on Switch probably would have been big, given the popularity of the previous titles.

Pitchford has said previously that there is definitely going to be another Borderlands game, Aside from that tease, we don't know anything else. We had hoped it would get a showing at E3 last year, but it didn't happen.

That's a bit of a shame but it sounds like whatever Gearbox wanted from Nintendo wasn't worth it to them in the end. Doesn't mean we won't ever see Borderlands 3 on the Shift. Borderlands 2 ended up on nearly every platform that could support it, I don't doubt BL3 will as well if the Shift does well.

don't know if i can trust Pichford but things like this might not bode well for future third party support.

Well i think currently it's just too much of an unknown... if the thing sells like crazy at launch might make 3rd parties think differently??

That and finding out FIFA for the switch is going to be a port of the xbox 360 version. Third party is going to be DOA again.

They said it was built for the ground up for the Switch, which probably means ported from the 360 version, but we don't really know yet.

I thought they said they were getting a custom version of FIFA. They actually meant a last gen port?

Eurogamer reporter said that was what he was hearing from the ea camp. Could end up being wrong but I believe it just based on ea and Nintendos history with each other.
