AMD Price Info
by Maarten Goldstein, Oct 13, 2000 2:31pm PDTCNET has some more info on the two new processors AMD will be launching, the 1.2Ghz Athlon and 800mhz Duron. Some retailers are already taking orders for the new CPUs, with the 1.2Ghz being available for $574 and the Duron for around $110. Seeing how Intel's 1Ghz P3 is still around $650 or so, those prices ain't bad at all. Also, Intel is getting ready to announce its earnings on Thursday along with expectations for the fourth quarter.

That's 112MHz bus speed for you mafmatically challenged brothas. And this 896MHz speed coupled wif a V5 makes for some sweetass gaming and serious carnage in the FFA deathmatch.
The same chip is $227 from the place I bought mine, http://www.upgradeplanet.com I can recommend them because they did me right.
This was an excellent upgrade because I didn't have to buy new ram(AMD's is some picky ass bitches about ram), a new mobo, or anything besides a $9 copper spacer to make my old Alpha heatsink/fan fit on a flipchip(it was on my Celeron550 before).
Going from 550 to 896 was a very good and reasonably painless upgrade. Long live Intel! :D

Right now I only have PC100 ram, 240watt ps, and socket 370 board with a Celeron in it.
I think I'm going to just upgrade the CPU to a Celeron2 or P3 before I change over to AMD.
The question is: which Celeron2 or P3?
If I get the Celeron2, I have full intentions of overclocking it up to the 100mhz bus. If I get the P3, I will have to leave it at the default 100 mhz bus because my ram can handle no more then that. Not even the 103 turbo setting.
