Rumor: Nintendo Switch European Titles Leaked on 4Chan

In the hours leading up to the Nintendo Switch Reveal Event, one more rumored Switch leak surfaces.

36

With just under six hours to go until the reveal event, we've got one last Nintendo Switch leak on which to report. This time the leak comes from 4chan, where a person claiming to be working setting up a European Nintendo Switch event has posted a list of Switch games they say are coming to the new console/handheld hybrid. Whether or not these are the Nintendo Switch launch games for Europe or just a host of titles being shown isn't known.

The rumored list of Nintendo Switch games the 4chan user posted is:

  • Has Been Heroes: An Indie Viking-style action game that is being developed by Frozenbyte for the Switch.
  • Fast RMX: This is the title Fast Racing NEO remade for Nintendo Switch with new content.
  • Snipperclips: This is a small title that uses the two Joycons for two players.
  • Splatoon 2: Apparently, the footage seen of Splatoon in the first-look trailer is a sequel, not a port.
  • Super Bomberman R: Hudson Soft's classic Bomberman franchise gets a Switch release.
  • Arms: This is a fantasy-style fighting game. All characters have their own themes and long arms with different powers and effects. The art style is very reminiscent of The Wonderful 101, and it may be developed by Platinum Games. Characters are said to be colorful and include a green ninja with chains for arms, a purple mummy, and that gameplay was based around a boxing or wrestling ring.
  • Disgaea 5 Complete - A port of Disgaea 5 with all DLC included
  • Ultra (Super) Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers: Port with new content added. Leaker backpedaled later in the thread and stated the title actually started with "Super."
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: A port of the Wii U title with new content added. Standee included new vehicles and tracks, but no new characters were seen.
  • Super Mario Odyssey: A new 3D Mario title. The logo is stated to have a plane in it which may indicate a new flying mechanic.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • Just Dance 2017
  • Skylanders Imaginators
  • 1 2 Switch: A mini-game compilation for the Nintendo Switch that showcases the console/handheld hybrid's tech.

The individual stated on 4chan that they couldn't take any photos, so photographic evidence doesn't exist for any of these leaks. These should obviously be taken with a grain of salt, particularly since we haven't even heard of several of these titles before this 4chan thread.

We'll know for sure which rumors are true and which leaks are false tonight. You can find out with the Shacknews crew as they livestream the Nintendo Switch Reveal Event on the Shacknews Facebook page beginning at 10 PM ET.

Shack frontpage lately is either top ten lists that were sourced in the chatty, rumors source from reddit/4chan, halfassed reviews of hardware that pale to other sites or articles that start with a disclaimer like this "This report and product analysis references claims made by customers that have received the No Man's Sky Explorer's Edition. These claims are public record and freely searchable. Shacknews assumes no liability as to the accuracy of these individual's statements."

I appreciate the stuff craddock and others do and but honestly klepek is right in that you should have more than a random screenshot from 4chan of all places to write any article.

The quote if you don't completely misquote it is "...the fringe culture around the Switch and possible leaked info has always made me uncomfortable" btw, for those who refuse to read twitter (I completely understand).

And for those that refuse to read kotaku (I completely understand), I went ahead and googled "switch culture jason" and found the article - some relevant bits if you care, which I'm not saying you should, but someone did, enough to misquote and not bother googling:
"Still, more often than not, 2016’s Nintendo rumors have panned out. In March, the contents of a European Nintendo Direct leaked out before it went live, and in the following months, more leaks emerged. There was the report that NX would use cartridges instead of discs (true). There was the report that NX was powered by Nvidia (also true). Then there was the biggest leak yet: Eurogamer deputy news editor Tom Phillips reported thorough and accurate details on Nintendo’s new system, which he said would be a portable console that has detachable controllers and plugs into your television (true, true, true).

Something about 2016 has just felt different than other years. I’ve been following Nintendo rumor culture for a long time, and usually it’s full of nonsense, propagated by Nintendo fan-sites that will happily publish just about anything. (Remember the Nintendo Fusion?) And sure, there’s been plenty of bullshit surrounding the Switch, like SuperMetalDave and this fanfiction-heavy Google document that’s worth reading just for laughs. But now more than ever, Nintendo’s secrets seem to be leaking non-stop."

I actually noticed it was missing a few weeks ago. It looks like Twitter changed something where wallpapers are no longer there, only the cover photo, which I've had it as a Dreamcast for a long time.

It's a shame, too. Greg did some custom work on that wallpaper for me to hide the "ecchi" from that image.

As long as the article explicitly states that they are rumors, I don't see what the problem is.

Maybe Scoops is jealous he didn't get this one?

Giving Gone Home a perfect score was the real crime though.

Oh man, if that's the entire launch line up I may pass on this. What a letdown. I mean, sure Mario should be cool, and Zelda looks good, but none of the other titles interest me in the least. I'll be watching but this tempers my enthusiasm a good bit.

The problem I see is the same problem Nintendo has had for awhile now . After everyone blows their load on Mario and Zelda for a month , the thing will sit and collect dust as they are notoriously slow at pushing out first party software and their third party support always blows because of the hardware limitations . Hard to spend even $300 on this when I know after beating Zelda it'll probably be a year before I touch it again .

Oh yay we can run a port of a year old game and we don't even for sure the port is on par with One / PS4 graphics yet . Accept it hardware wise its starting behind the curve . Like always .

          January 12, 2017 7:00 PM

Don't be disingenuous. A console made with 4 year old tech is GOING to have hardware limitations sooner rather than later, even if you want to argue semantics about whether or not a port coming out the month of launch is limited or not.

Hardware choices catch up to you. Sony and Microsoft are already two cycles ahead. And that's on Day 1.

"A console made with 4 year old tech"

            Are you for real?

Sony and Microsoft are also not two cycles ahead, these are incremental mid-cycle updates, one of which won't be out for almost a year. Games for PS4 Pro and Scorpio also also mandated to fully support original PS4 and XB1 hardware. The updates are there to work natively (lol not really) on 4k displays.

UE4, Unity, and Vulkan are all supported by the Switch, ports are easy. If you really care about performance than do what I did and pick up a GTX 1080.

        January 12, 2017 7:37 PM

That really shouldn't happen now. Since this system will merge the console and portable platforms, we should get a more regular pace of 1st party releases. And, assuming they better support 3rd party (and there's a large enough install base - thinking DS numbers), that should keep the releases coming.

BUT, I really don't ports. I don't need Madden 2017, or yet another BF/CoD on yet another console. I know some want that, but I really don't see that's where Nintendo wants to go. They'd just make a much more powerful $400 system if that's their goal. And, you prob wouldn't try to do that on a tablet formfactor.

          January 12, 2017 7:45 PM

That's the idea, that the prior mobile/console droughts would be addressed by having everyone target one platform instead of being split between two.

          > I don't need Madden 2017, or yet another BF/CoD on yet another console

          And ... that's the problem.

Nintendo has done things "different" for a long time now. Those titles (Madden, CoD) sell a TON of copies, even if you don't want them on the system. What the Switch can do (now) is have the ability to have those sorts of games AND have the "Nintendo games". With previous consoles, these AAA titles never came to Nintendo's console because of the lacking SDK. N is now embracing Unity, so you're going to see some level of ports (for those that care) and that's an overall big win for N.

The whole argument doesn't even hold up if you spent more time looking up past articles than you did replying to a 13 hour old subthread.

There was plenty of talk about the leaked Project Beast videos that were leaked on 4chan, same with the SSB4 roster that was also leaked on 4chan. Not to mention all the various times NeoGAF has been brought up in regards to hardware leaks, upcoming game release leaks, etc.

And every single thing you brought up has been addressed in this 13 hour old sub-thread and in the twitter feed above.

The source of a leak as in 4chan/neogaf or the accuracy of speculation was never the issue at hand. Reporting requires some amount of dumpster diving but that should not be the sole activity involved.

There is a story to be found in this as places like eurogamer and co have shown, copy and pasting random shit of reddit/4chan and other places is not what shacknews should aspire to as a standard practice. Its not 97 anymore when maarten would copy and paste links to other peoples work to this "blog" and even that had more journalistic integrity than rumor-mongering as means to drive traffic.
