Ayeee... 3dfx isnt having a good time lately. If you remember last quarters results they lost 100.5 million bucks. They blamed it on a shortage I believe. Well they just put out another warning for this quarter.

...earnings for the three months ending October 31, 2000, to be substantially below the Company's previous expectations. The anticipated shortfall is primarily due to overall softness in the European retail and system integrator channels.
3dfx also just recently lost their PR guy to NVidia, Brian Burke. Thanks Travis Yoes

  • I agree #34... When they started looking at buying out STB, the other board manuf. went strait to nVidia to solidify their relationships, which were kind of shaky before... 3dfx empowered their rival while at the same time, spending money on the buyout that should have gone in R@D... and nVidia poured $ into R@D.... 3dfx was unable to get their products to market in a timely manner b/c of the time they lost in consolidation, and nVidia stomped on them like a narc at a biker rally.

    Its the kind of strategic mistake that many high tech companies never recover from... (kinda like when Apple forged ahead with the 'closed' archatecture and *IBM, Compaq, ect* went with the 'open')
    {so long ago I forgot the name of that 'Industry Constortum' }
